Programme Launch Tuesday August 28th, Hotel Meyrick, Eyre Square, Galway
The third annual Galway Jazz Festival, will be held on the weekend of September 14 to 16 2007. Feature artists include the Benny Lackner Trio (USA), Roberto Magris (Italy), the first ladies of Irish Jazz- Honor Heffernan and Aoife Doyle, Linley Hamilton and Mark McKnight, Dylan Rynhart and Cortisol.

Highlights
The Galway Jazz Festival has found a new home in the new-look Hotel Meyrick, which will host the feature concerts and Festival Club in TOSH. Other venues include Nimmo's, the Town Hall Studio, The Galway Arts Centre Nun's Island Studio and St Nicholas' Church.
This is a festival of many 'firsts' - for the very first time we have introduced the concept of an Artist-In Residence and the first to hold that post will be none other than Richie Buckley, one of Ireland's most talented and famed musicians.  In another first we are bringing you jazz on the big screen with a series of movies featuring rare archive material from the jazz greats of the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's.
The Galway Jazz Festival Youth Orchestra has been specially formed for the weekend. Twenty talented young musicians will come together with the help of the Benny Lackner Trio, Roberto Magris and Artist-In- Residence Richie Buckley. Together, in the course of three rehearsals, which are open to interested musicians and listeners to come and watch, they demonstrate the process of preparing Big Band charts for performance. They will then present a finale concert on Sunday.

Workshops & Listening Sessions
Choose between a guitar workshop with Mark McKnight, the Alexander Technique with Frederico Betti, and a children's drum workshop with Cormac Dunne. The Listening Sessions with help from Sony take place in Nimmo's. Listen to Benny Lackner, Roberto Magris and Richie Buckley talk about the music that influenced them, and the music that still influences them today. A rare insight into the contemporary artists mind!

Fringe events & Festival Club
Our programme also includes a broad range of complementary jazz sessions in venues such as the Tigh Neachtain, the Spanish Arch Hotel, the Bal, Bar 903, the Hotel Meyrick and the Cellar.
Finally, round the day off by joining us at the Galway Jazz Festival Club in TOSH at the Hotel Meyrick Friday, Saturday and Sunday night 11pm til late.
